Hellenic Scientific Council for the Information Society (HSCIS) was established in 2001. The main purpose of HSCIS is to contribute to the development of the Information Society within a privacy preserving environment, safeguarding the rights of individuals and secure information – communication systems and electronic transactions.

Actions to achieve this goal include, but are not limited to:

  • The organization of Scientific Conferences, lectures and seminars at national and international level for the scientific briefing of both members and public opinion on relevant topics
  • The drafting and publication of books and studies and the publication of a journal aimed at promoting scientific dialogue on issues related to the subject of the Association.
  • Contribute to the improvement and modernization of the legislative framework that currently governs the protection of individuals' rights and the wider framework for the regulation of electronic transactions in the Information Society in cooperation with other scientific bodies, competent government agencies and independent public authorities, and in particular the Authority Protection of Personal Data.
  • Contributing to the improvement of the technological environment to achieve the goal and the submission of memoranda and recommendations to state and private bodies on the rational and human-friendly use of technology
  • The development of educational and informative programs for the purpose of special scientific training of executives of the administration and of the private sector and the information of individuals for the more effective exercise of their rights.
  • To coordinate its actions with other scientific bodies of Greece and abroad and to cooperate with them in the promotion and promotion of subjects of common scientific interest, especially those related to its specific aims.
  • Cooperation with state and private bodies, businesses and individuals who are interested in issues related to the most effective protection of the individual in their activities
  • Set up scientific working groups to study and address specific issues and to draft opinions
  • Participation in the training and implementation of programs funded by the Greek State, the European Union or other national or international organizations institutions or other public or private bodies
  • The organization of cultural, entertainment events, excursions, dance parties, film screenings, the creation of a scientific library, publications and in general any legitimate action that serves as an aid to the achievement of its goals
  • The establishment of a research institute on relevant issues in collaboration with academics or other stakeholders or research centers
